Trancoso is a lovely village 21 km south of Arraial D’Ayuda by dust
road. The place is magic to its visitors, being the most frequently visited
by foreigners. More than half its population is made up of natives; the
others have migrated from all other parts of Brazil and the rest of the
world, as tourists and then dwellers, such the charm of this village.
In contrast with Porto Seguro, Arrail D’Ayuda, Trancoso offers a
more tranquil space, without great hotels, with small inns (posadas) in
the midst of virgin vegetation, a picturesque group of colonial houses
and wonderful beaches.
It started
as a Jesuitical village in the XVII century, staying as one of the last
examples, still preserved, of Brazilian villages in old times. On top
of a prominent area, it was founded as defence against Palo Brasil (Brazilian
stick) smugglers. The small town centre goes around a wide square with
leafy trees, where vehicles are not allowed. Time seems to have stopped
there, with several colourful XIX century buildings in perfect condition.
The visitor can find elegant boutiques, craft shops, small rustic and
sophisticated restaurants, pubs, clubs, inns and art galleries. Restaurants
display all kinds of foreign cuisines, due to the fact that travellers
from all over the world have stayed in Trancoso. There are also, of course,
typical dishes from southern BahÃa, milder than the ones from Salvador.

 Centre
of the Spanish colonisation of the RÃo de La Plata until the second
foundation of Buenos Aires, Asuncion is today the political, economic
and cultural capital city of Paraguay. In 1617, the RÃo de la Plata
Governorship was divided into two provinces: RÃo de la Plata and
Paraguay, its capital cities being Buenos Aires and Asuncion, respectively.
The choice of Buenos Aires as the capital of the Rio de la La Plata Viceroyalty
in 1776 left Asuncion on a secondary plane, until the independence of
Paraguay was declared in 1811. Asuncion represents the economic centre
of Paraguay, as well as its almost sole manufacturing centre. It is also
the main financial and trading centre. More than half the exports and
imports of Paraguay are carried out through this city. The past of the
city shows in its urban design and its residential buildings. Among the
main civil and religious buildings, we can mention the Cathedral (finished
in 1850), the Legislative Palace, the National Pantheon, The Archbishopric
Palace, and the Incarnacion Church.

 When
colonisation started, it was occupied by Europeans looking for exploration
and trading of tropical products. The local activities were hunting, fishing
and small-scale cultivation. Geographically it consists of a privileged
seacoast with a big bay and hundreds of islands, which later became a
strategic point for trading between South America, Europe and Africa.
In XVII century it was constantly visited by pirates. In XIX century it
reached a peak due to the growth of coffee production, the Villa Historica
de Mambucaba being a clear example of this expansion. Then with the abolition
of slavery and the advent of railway construction, the village decayed,
as it was no longer possible to transport large quantities of cargo between
Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo. At present Angra dos Reis offers a rich
architecture with houses dating from XVII and XVIII centuries, many old
churches and sacred art museums. These are 365 islands and more than 2,000
beaches among abundant vegetation and the deep blue sea. Some beaches
are more popular than others. To many, going around this place means choosing
a boat and going to see the islands, although the city also offers wonderful
places.
